When clocks fall back in early November, kids are up at 5 a.m. ready to party. A little prep helps.

The week before

Shift kids' bedtimes 10–15 minutes later every couple of nights, so they land close to the new time.

Morning light

Open curtains or get outside early. Light is the strongest signal for the body clock.

For you

Keep screens away for 30 minutes before bed and protect your own wind-down routine. The extra hour is a gift only if you use it.

Be patient

Most families settle in a few days to a week.
