Porch Pumpkins With What You Already Have

A last-minute fall porch that uses pumpkins, baskets, and blankets already in the house, not a cart of new faux stems.

Halloween and fall porches online assume a craft-store budget. Yours can assume a grocery pumpkin and the basket by the door.

Use what exists

  • One to three pumpkins (grocery, leftover from school, or the wonky one from last weekend)
  • A basket, crate, or planter you already own
  • A plaid throw or towel that can handle weather for a week
  • String lights if they are already in the holiday bin, do not buy a new strand for this

Arrangement in five minutes

Cluster odd numbers on the steps. Tuck the throw under so it does not blow into the street. Stop before it looks like a store display, asymmetrical and a little messy reads lived-in, not unfinished.

What we skip

Faux maple leaf garlands sold in bulk packs for one season. If you already own stems, use them. If you do not, pumpkins alone are enough. Neighbors notice warmth more than SKUs.
