Dogs in costumes make great photos. The dog does not always agree.

Check comfort

Try it on a week early, for a few minutes, with treats. Signs of stress: tucked tail, pinned ears, freezing, lip licking, trying to back out.

Avoid

  • Anything covering eyes, ears, or mouth
  • Small chewable parts
  • Tight elastic around the neck or legs
  • Costumes on long walks, they overheat

Easy alternative

A festive Halloween bandana gets the photo without the stress.

On the night

Keep dogs away from the door, candy bowls up high, and ID tags on in case of a door dash.
