Litter box problems are one of the top reasons cats act out. The fix is mostly routine.

The rules

  • One box per cat plus one
  • Scoop dailymake it a kid chore with gloves and a small bin
  • Full change weekly for clumping litter
  • Quiet locationaway from food and loud appliances

Kid version

Ages 8+ can scoop with supervision. Handwashing every time, and pregnant family members should skip it.

Watch for

A cat going outside the box, straining, or peeing more often deserves a vet call, it can signal a urinary issue, which can become an emergency in male cats.
