The Family After-Dinner Walk (Even in the Dark)

Fifteen minutes, flashlights, and no destination. Why a short after-dinner family walk is one of the easiest fall wellness habits to keep.

Fall evenings get dark early, but the after-dinner walk still works.

Why bother

A short walk after eating can help with digestion and blood sugar, gets everyone off screens, and often brings out the best conversations with kids.

Make it doable

  • 10–15 minutes, around the block
  • Flashlights or headlamps, kids love them
  • Reflective vests or clip-on lights for visibility
  • The dog comes too

Keep it low-pressure

No step goals. No destination. The habit counts more than the distance.
