- Description: The one-shelf beauty rule for shared bathrooms: clear borders per person, fewer sink fights, and a counter you can wipe every single morning.

Shared bathrooms fail by inches: his razor in her moisturizer zone, a teen’s hair tools colonizing the only outlet, a counter that cannot be wiped because nobody knows whose serum is whose. The one-shelf rule is not aesthetic minimalism. It is a peace treaty.

## The rule

Each person gets **one shelf, one basket, or one vertical slice** of storage that is theirs. Daily face and teeth live there. Overflow goes to a bedroom drawer or a labeled bin under the sink — not to the international waters of the countertop.

Couples, roommates, kids with their own products: same logic. Guests get a tray that can disappear after the weekend.

## Why shelves beat speeches

Speeches fade. A basket with a name tape does not. When something lands outside a zone, it has an obvious home to return to without a referendum on who makes more mess.

If the bathroom is too small for literal shelves, use stacked clear bins or over-door pockets. The geometry can flex. The boundary cannot.

## Counter privilege is earned daily

The counter is for what you are using **this morning**, not for the archive of maybes. Finish, wipe, put back. A clear counter is how two people brush teeth without a shoulder check.

## Product honesty hour (fifteen minutes)

Once a month, each person edits their own shelf: empties out, dupes consolidated, anything unused for a month relocated. No touching anyone else’s products without permission — that is how wars start over a tube of something sentimental.

We will not invent product recommendations or prices. Keep what you use. Release what you do not.

## Household peace is the glow-up

A shared bathroom will never look like a hotel amenity photo. It can look like adults who agreed on borders. One shelf each. Wipe the middle. Leave the room kinder than you found it — or at least no worse.

## Restock without a spiral

When something empties, replace only that slot. Do not “while you are there” the aisle. A one-shelf rule fails the day it becomes a haul. If a product has lived unused for a season, it graduates out before anything new arrives. Empty space on the shelf is allowed; it is how the rule breathes.
