School-party cookies need to travel well, look festive without fancy tools, and still taste like real cookies. This batch is a soft sugar-cookie base with simple icing and candy bits from the pantry. Bake the night before, pack in a tin with parchment, and you are ready for the class party without a craft-store run.

Pantry-friendly here means swaps are welcome. Amounts are still listed so you can cook without guessing.

**Yield:** About 24 cookies · **Time:** 20 min prep · 10-12 min bake · cool 20 min

## Ingredients

**Pantry dough**

- 2¼ cups (270 g) flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) soft butter
- ¾ cup (150 g) brown sugar
- ½ cup (100 g) sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1½ cups (255 g) chocolate chips or chopped candy

**Tube shortcut**

- 1 (16 oz) roll refrigerated sugar or chocolate chip cookie dough

**Decorate**

- 1 cup powdered sugar + 2-3 tbsp milk for icing
- ½ cup sprinkles or chopped candy

## Steps

1. Heat the oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment.
2. Cream the butter and sugar until light. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl, then mix into the butter mixture just until a soft dough forms. Chill 20 minutes if the dough feels sticky.
3. Scoop 1½-tablespoon balls (or roll and cut with a simple round or pumpkin cutter). Place 2 inches apart. Bake 9 to 11 minutes, until the edges are set and the centers look pale. Cool completely on the sheets for 5 minutes, then on a rack.
4. Stir powdered sugar with milk and vanilla until thick but spreadable. Tint with a drop of gel color if you have it. Spread a thin layer on each cookie and press on candy bits or sprinkles before the icing sets.
5. Let the icing dry 30 minutes before stacking with parchment between layers.

## Use-what-you-have swaps

- Nut-free classroom: chips only, no peanut candy

## Serve / store

Keeps in an airtight tin at room temperature up to 4 days. For the classroom, pack with a note listing major allergens.

Send extras to the teacher stash. If the class is peanut-free, skip nut candies and use sprinkles, candy corn, or plain chocolate chips.
