Dogs in costumes make great photos. The dog does not always agree.

## Check comfort

Try it on a week early, for a few minutes, with treats. Signs of stress: tucked tail, pinned ears, freezing, lip licking, trying to back out.

## Avoid

- Anything covering eyes, ears, or mouth
- Small chewable parts
- Tight elastic around the neck or legs
- Costumes on long walks, they overheat

## Easy alternative

A festive [Halloween bandana](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=dog+halloween+bandana&tag=unknowndivi02-20&ref=beautifullychaoticlife.com) gets the photo without the stress.

## On the night

Keep dogs away from the door, candy bowls up high, and ID tags on in case of a door dash.
