A cinnamon roll mug cake is the single-serve fix when you want the swirl without yeast or a sink full of bowls. Mix in the mug, microwave, eat with a spoon while it is still warm.

Mug cakes do not wait politely. They are best in the first five minutes. Beautifully Chaotic Life supports dessert for one after bedtime without committing to a dozen rolls.

Wattages vary. Start with 60 seconds and add 10-second bursts. Overcooking turns the crumb into a sponge you regret.

**Yield:** 1 mug cake · **Time:** 5 minutes

## Ingredients

**Cake**

- 4 tbsp (30 g) flour
- 2 tbsp sugar
- ¼ tsp baking powder
- pinch salt
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- 3 tbsp milk
- 1 tbsp oil or melted butter
- ¼ tsp vanilla

**Swirl**

- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp butter melted

**Icing**

- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- ½-1 tsp milk

## Steps

1. In a large microwave-safe mug, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir in milk, melted butter or oil, and vanilla until no dry pockets remain. Do not overmix.
2. Swirl a spoon of brown sugar mixed with cinnamon and a dab of butter on top. Drag a toothpick through once for a roll look.
3. Microwave 60 to 90 seconds until the top looks set. Mugs and wattages vary. Stop when it springs back. Overcooking makes it tough.
4. Cool 1 minute. Optional glaze: stir powdered sugar with a few drops of milk and drizzle on top.

## Use-what-you-have swaps

- Greek yogurt thinned with water for milk
- Melted butter for oil
- Almond extract drop with the vanilla
- Skip icing and eat with a drip of maple syrup
- Add a tablespoon of finely chopped apple to the batter
- Protein-style: swap 1 tablespoon flour for almond flour (texture tighter)

## Tips from a real kitchen

- Use a large mug. Batter rises. Overflow is sticky and demoralizing.
- Whisk dry ingredients first so baking powder spreads.
- Stop when the top looks set and springs back. Wet batter in the center needs 10 more seconds.
- Cool 1 minute so you do not burn your tongue on cinnamon lava.

## Make-ahead

Do not make ahead. Mix dry ingredients in a jar for a "mug cake kit" if you want speed: flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, salt measured for one serving. Add wet when the craving hits.

## Serve and store

Eat from the mug. Optional glaze of powdered sugar and milk. Pair with coffee. This is not a lunchbox item.

## If it goes sideways

- \*\*Overflow:\*\* Next time fill only halfway. Learn the sticky way once.
- \*\*Rubbery:\*\* Overmicrowaved. Shorter bursts next time.
- \*\*Raw pocket:\*\* Stir halfway through cooking, or lengthen by 10 seconds.
