A jar of chai spice blend from spices you already own means lattes, oatmeal, and muffins get a custom warm mix without buying a new tin. Stir once, store in a small jar, use by the spoonful.

## Yield:

About 5 tablespoons blend · Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

Blend

2 tbsp ground cinnamon

1 tbsp ground ginger

2 tsp ground cardamom (or 1 tsp if strong)

1 tsp ground nutmeg

1 tsp ground cloves (or allspice)

½ tsp ground black pepper (optional, chai bite)

Optional 1 tsp ground coriander

Steps

Measure the ground spices into a small bowl: cinnamon as the base, then ginger, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, and a pinch of black pepper if you like heat.

Whisk until the color looks even. Taste a pinch on your palm. Adjust cinnamon up for sweeter, ginger up for bite, cardamom up for perfume.

Funnel into a clean, dry jar. Label with the date and a short ingredient list.

Use ½ to 1 teaspoon per mug of warm milk with sweetener for a quick chai-style drink, or 1 to 2 teaspoons in muffin and cookie batters.

Use-what-you-have swaps

No cardamom → extra cinnamon + pinch black pepper

Serve / store

Keep sealed in a cool cupboard up to 6 months for best flavor. Ground spices fade; sniff before you bake a big batch.

Whole spices you toast and grind taste brighter. Ground from the rack still beats skipping the cozy drink.

## Make it weekday-proof

Read the full ingredient list once before you preheat. Set out pans and measuring tools first so you are not mid-recipe hunting for a whisk. Taste for salt before you serve. Write any spice change on a sticky for next time. Leftovers get dated lids. Weeknight cooking stays calm when the recipe does not depend on a perfect grocery run or a second trip for one garnish.

## How to use the jar this week

Stir half a teaspoon into oatmeal. Whisk a teaspoon into muffin batter. Warm milk with a spoonful and sweetener for a weeknight latte. Gift a small jar with a label if you already have spare spice. Sniff before big baking projects; ground spices fade, and a tired blend makes flat cookies.

Repeat the parts that worked and drop the parts that only looked good in your head. That edit is how this guide earns another week in real life.

## Gift and refresh

A small jar with a handwritten label makes a low-effort host gift in November. Refresh your own blend every six months; faded ginger tastes like dust and will ruin a good latte. Store away from the stove so heat does not kill the perfume before you finish the jar.
