Caramel apple slices give you the fair-food vibe without wrestling a whole sticky apple on a stick. Slice crisp apples, set out a warm caramel dip, and let everyone load toppings from small bowls. It is faster than candied apples, easier for little hands, and uses pantry toppings you already bought for Halloween.

Pantry-friendly here means swaps are welcome. Amounts are still listed so you can cook without guessing.

**Yield:** 8 servings (about 4 apples) · **Time:** 20 minutes

## Ingredients

**Apples**

- 4 medium apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice (or orange juice) + 1 cup cold water for the soak

**Microwave caramel (candy path)**

- 20 soft caramel squares (about 6 oz / 170 g), unwrapped
- 1½ tbsp milk or cream

**Stovetop caramel (pantry path)**

- ½ cup (100 g) packed brown sugar
- 3 tbsp (42 g) butter
- 3 tbsp heavy cream or milk
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ tsp vanilla

**Toppings bar**

- ½ cup chopped peanuts or pretzels
- ⅓ cup mini chocolate chips
- ⅓ cup crushed cookies or chopped candy bars
- Popsicle sticks or toothpicks

## Steps

1. Wash and dry the apples. Core and cut into thick wedges. Toss with a little lemon juice so they stay bright.
2. Warm the caramel sauce in a small saucepan over low heat, or microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring until pourable. Keep it warm in a small slow cooker or over a tea light if you are serving a crowd.
3. Arrange apple wedges on a platter. Set the caramel in the center with small bowls of toppings: chopped peanuts or pretzels, mini chocolate chips, crushed cookies, sprinkles, and leftover candy bits.
4. Invite everyone to dip a wedge, then press into toppings. Provide forks for younger kids who do not want sticky fingers.

## Use-what-you-have swaps

- No caramels → pantry caramel path
- Nut-free → pretzels + chips only

## Serve / store

Apples are best within 2 hours of slicing. Keep leftover caramel covered in the fridge up to a week; rewarm gently. Leftover toppings go back in their bags.

If someone has a nut allergy at the table, keep a nut-free topping bowl clearly labeled. The apples and caramel still steal the show.

## Keep the slices from browning

Cut apples go tan fast, and nobody wants a beige platter. Toss slices in a bowl of cold water with a squeeze of lemon for five minutes, then drain and pat them very dry so the caramel actually clings. Crisp, tart varieties like Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, or Granny Smith hold their crunch longest and balance the sweetness of the dip.

## Set up the board for a crowd

Put the warm caramel in a small slow cooker on the warm setting, or in a heatproof bowl you can rewarm in the microwave in fifteen-second bursts. Arrange toppings in a row of small bowls: chopped peanuts, mini chocolate chips, crushed pretzels, flaky salt, and a few sprinkles for the festive crowd. Add a jar of toothpicks or short skewers so fingers stay out of the dip.

If you need a nut-free table, skip the peanuts and use toasted coconut or crushed graham crackers. Leftover caramel keeps in a jar in the fridge for a week and is excellent over vanilla ice cream on a quiet night.
